What are food complaints?
Food complaints refer to grievances or concerns raised by consumers regarding any possible failure to comply with the Food Act 2022 or regulations made thereunder and reported to the Public Health and Food Safety Inspectorate for appropriate action.
The Public Health and Food Safety Inspectorate
The Public Health and Food Safety Inspectorate of the Ministry of Health and Wellness is responsible to enforce the Food Act 2022 and regulations made thereunder. Its activities include regular inspection of food and food premises, sampling of food to verify compliance with standards in the technical regulations and legal actions in case of non-compliance such as seizure, contravention and prosecution.
There are 13 regional Health Offices located all over the island of Mauritius to carry out regular market surveillance to ensure compliance with the Food Act 2022 and the regulations made thereunder. In Rodrigues there is one Health Office, which is under the Commission for Health of the Rodrigues Regional Assembly.
