Food Safety Capacity Building Workshop

A half-day food safety capacity workshop was organised by the Economic Development Board Mauritius in collaboration with the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) Secretariat, on July 18th, 2024. The Officer in Charge of the MFSA, Mr. Yousouf Gaungoo, presented how the recently proclaimed Food Act 2022, and forthcoming Food Regulations 2024 would contribute to food safety and nutrition. This half-day workshop was marked by the presence of academics, industry professionals, and representatives of government organisations, among others.

The event also highlighted the COMESA capacity-building program, implemented by Victus Global Botswana Organisation which supports Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in primary and processed food production on a Voluntary Capacity Building Scheme based on the Global Markets Program (GMaP) of the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI).
